When We Were Young
A Poem by TTBoy28
Drive-Bys equal cries
Were the days of copping a squat
on the stoop at the stop
claiming the best one for
ourselves
Be it Blue, Red, Green
Afraid of the Black Ones and the
White Ones
Seen as different angels that
come and go
If only it was for show
Always the calmest time with
the bestest buds who wanted to
revel in that time
for as long as they could
Knowing all along that they were kids
who couldn’t wait to grow up
Who couldn’t wait to someday
drive-by the spot
