The Coming Out Party

It’s time

Let the lights shine

Break out the Bacardi

All Hail the coming out party

Might not be a big thing

Why don’t you see what’s underneath

Jump up and down and sing

Why did Eve have to wear a leaf?

Times are changing

Not so much for the world

So the closets are flaming

Even children want to unfurl

Why hide so much

When all love is hearty

So much Sweetness to the touch

Time for a coming out party

Break the taboo

Was it really written in stone?

Powers that be don’t have a clue

They tap more than a telephone

Raise your voices

And take a stand

You have choices

Hold the same hand

What a treasure

Make their hearts see

Pleasure is the measure

Just join the coming out party

Why is being gay an “Unhealthy Sexual Addiction” when there are so many closeted gays?

In today’s Huffington Post, February 28, 2013, GOP Lawmaker, Glenn Gruenhagen, Minnesota Rep. stated “Homosexuality is an ‘Unhealthy Sexual Addiction.’  How would he know?  It amazes me how many so-called straight men take ownership in blasting the way-of-life or even lifestyles of members of the LGBT.  For my many friends who have always remained true to themselves and their significant others, ‘unhealthy’ does not fit into their vocabulary unless, of course, it is a matter of sharing something against another’s will.  It may not be so nice to exclaim this but any true lover of mankind would never knowingly infect another human being.  And, for those who have taken it upon themselves to misuse the trust instilled in them, well, those individuals should accept the fact that they are disgusting.  But, let’s take a look at the perception of straight men…and women.  An ‘Unhealthy Sexual Addiction’ for them is overshadowed simply because it is in their nature as straight people.  They cheat.  They lie.  They even marry out of convenience to throw off their ‘unhealthy’ thoughts.  Yes, I’m talking about the closeted straights who bash those who are more comfortable with themselves in the alternative realm.  Those who are more true to themselves may be just as religious or spiritual, or even more so, than those who choose to use the fact that coming out would ‘kill their parents’ or tarnish their status in the church.  Still, living a lie should be reverberated that it is ‘Unhealthy’ and the more they try and convince not only themselves of their denial is, in fact, an addiction.

In my opinion, members of society who have the option to go ‘both ways,’ have the best and worst of both worlds.  However, society has yet to fully embrace bisexuality.  It seems much easier to label one as ‘gay’ simply because they enjoy the company of the same sex.  Bromance is a word that should be done away with.  Two apparently known straight men who over-enjoy the time they spend with each other does not encounter the same treatment as two openly gay men based on the connotation associated with the word gay.  This is the same for two straight women.  Now would a straight man admit to having ‘gay tendencies?’  Absolutely not!  And the reason for their denial is the fear of being ostracized by society.

Gruenhagen may well be riding the moral majority bandwagon.  If there are so many people in support of gay rights, why don’t they really walk the walk?  Just having gay rights assemblies or marches will never conquer the views and 15-minutes-of-fame outbursts of men like Gruenhagen.  More straight men and women will have to come forward and express their rights to have someone like Gruenhagen shut up and move on to something that truly is a detriment to the world at large.  Even the media should cease promoting such vile and despicable individuals just for the sake of news fodder.  Speaking out against gays seem to increase network ratings more than the support of gays does.  It’s as if the media relishes on smiles turned upside down.  This seems to be the American consensus of the GOP right now.  Alas, with so much negativity swirling around and amidst the GOP, could the American public be unhealthy addicts for bias?  It appears that lawmakers like that of Gruenhagen look forward to inciting riots about not only gay rights but for women’s rights as well.  Who really loses the battle?  Is it the gay Republican who knows that they have no chance in Hell of being wholeheartedly being accepted by the group that would rather move them to their own island?  Or is it the female Republican who has had it drilled in their skull that they will never be an equal to a man?  It’s always been about the Republicans.  Money equates to power.  And the more money you have, while you’re seen as a straight and morally upstanding citizen, you can never be stigmatized as ‘unhealthy’ or an ‘addict.’  Sex is something you have in the privacy of either your own home or the home belonging to someone else.  It’s such a shame that getting caught with your pants down across town can all be explained and forgiven, as long as you’re straight.  Out of wedlock pregnancies committed by adulterous men and women even take a backseat to the gays who don’t have the luxury of child-bearing…and in some states, child-rearing.

Stupid is as Stupid does! Or does Insensitivity breed Insensitivity?

Are NFL football players public figures like a Syracuse Mayor?

When NFL football players, who are selected by a group of men to serve their teams don’t deliver a return on the powers-that-be investment, they generally leave a sour taste for their fans on and off the playing field.  Take for example cornerback, Chris Culliver, for the San Francisco 49ers.  When Culliver made the ultimate scathing remarks about gay football players not being “welcomed” in their team’s locker room, many believed this young person had definitely crossed the line.  As confident as he assumed his position, the comment held much weight as so-called straight men playing in Super Bowl XLVII were being likened to Goliath and the closeted gay men held hands with David.  Culliver and his band of cronies would even deny taking part in a near “It Gets Better” campaign.  For a moment, gasps could be heard around the world as the 49ers drew closer to triumph.  Ultimately, Culliver and his Goliath brethren lost the match to the lone vocal David, Brendon Ayanbadejo, linebacker for the victorious Baltimore Ravens on February 3, 2013.  While there are surely Christians who believe homosexuality is an abomination, Ayanbadejo’s good over-powered Culliver’s evil.  Where was the leader or leaders who elected the bashing Culliver and his fellow mates at the time of the foul attention they garnered?  No one said that Culliver was wrong for his poor choice of words during his interview with Artie Lang.  It was almost as if the 49ers were sending a message directly to Ayanbadejo that “any sissies on the field are going down…”  Isn’t it time for the media to make Ayanbadejo’s crusade for Gay Rights and his Baltimore Ravens victory an example to all who oppose gay players in the NFL?  Would a 49ers victory at Super Bowl XLVII have been a slap in the face of adversity?  No doubt.  Isn’t it even time for team owners to speak up and say, “We will not and do not tolerate imposing fear on any player who can and wants to play football”?  In no way has it been shared and cared that Ayanbadejo is himself a gay player for the NFL.  However, if he is, has he not already become the “Jackie Robinson of the NFL?”  Not only should the owner or owners of the Baltimore Ravens applaud Ayanbadejo’s behavior on and off the field, the general public should do so as well.  “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is obviously running amok in the testosterone-enraged locker rooms that Christians have helped to support.  Are club owners held to a majority view-point?  Maybe so.  For the love of the game, whether a man or woman can play the game should take precedence over one’s lifestyle or “way-of-life.”  Like any public figure, serving for the betterment of good should be the motto.

But like the NFL’s lack of cultural adversity, there are other figures or officials, like Syracuse Mayor, Stephanie Miner, who choose to ignore those who elected her to her position.  Like NFL players are employees to their team, a secretary or personal assistant to the Mayor should not overstep their bounds and become selective in which messages require a higher priority for the Mayor.  It may be a given that the Mayor receives all kinds of phone calls from voters and non-voters alike.  But when a call is made and a message is left with a secretary regarding discrimination or misuse of funds, the Mayor should extend the courtesy of returning the call.  What a scapegoat for the Mayor to say that she was never made aware of the attempt to expose the wrongdoing.  Again, like the abhorrent players in the NFL, a non-customer service oriented Mayor shows her true colors in a way comparable of flipping off endearing voters.  Having become interested in politics at an early age, Miner may have inherited or obviously enveloped a “Fake it till you make it” mentality toward the people of Syracuse, New York.  Although Miner is seeking a second term as Mayor in the Democrat majority-ruled city, her not so glorious performance record may go unnoticed by the people.  While the word “Democrat” or democracy is synonymous with being “for the people,” it is not yet discovered who or what Miner serves or supports.  Not returning phone calls is just one way to explain her ill towards the non-private sector.

A public figure is one whose life and behavior are the main focus of intense scrutiny and public interest.  Whether viewing a game on regular television or paying monies to attend an intense match.  As tensions brew on the football playing field, so do them inside City Hall or during the Mayor’s public and private addresses.  But as serving for the majority is a key issue, bestowing one’s own personal beliefs become more hurtful to those who are blindsided as fans.

At Chick-Fil-A, You can’t be gay…Otherwise, You can’t stay!

How can anyone who fully aware that they are not wanted someplace still want to be a part of that organization?  Whether it’s being gay in the Republican Party, enjoying the food at the neighborhood Cracker Barrel, or dining at or even taking out food from your local area Chick-Fil-A, you are trying to buy the love of a hater.  In recent comments, Dan Cathy, CEO for Chick-Fil-A, has basically stated that the gay lifestyle does not align with the “family values” Chick-Fil-A adheres to in its association with Christianity.  The whole idea of “family”, details that Chick-Fil-A fully supports any member, members, or groups who does not engage in same-sex partnerships and considers themselves a family.  As if calling the gay lifestyle, or even way-of-life, an abomination, Chick-Fil-A’s Dan Cathy- the son of Chick-Fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy, mocks that culture by stating in an interview to the Baptist Press:

“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family owned business, a family led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that…we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”

With such a skewed view of what the ‘traditional family’ is, Mr. Cathy apparently has failed to acknowledge that promiscuity, infidelity, and troubles occur in all kinds or types of relationships.  Just to say that his family –led business is “married to our first wives” really is nothing short of hot air.  What prompts an person or company to begin to express itself in such a vile and despicable manner?  Could there possibly have been personal trouble at the top – forcing Mr. Cathy to divulge such hate for the LGBT community?  Whatever the case, the Chick-Fil-A organization has set standards against anyone living their lives in a way that does not conform with the beliefs of Chick-Fil-A.  But is it just sight alone of seeing two same-sex people together that irks people?  Do people walk in to Chick-Fil-A advertising verbally that they are gay?  In any respect, knowing now how that company feels about the LGBT way-of-life, why would one continue to act as a patron for that establishment?  Is the chicken that good?  Really?

Guilt by Association.  Even if one was to say that they don’t believe in their company’s policies and beliefs, it’s almost a slap in the face knowing how that company feels about you or others that fit their negative profile.

Jeremiah Cillpam, owner of the Hollywood Chick-Fil-A Los Angeles, California has tried to clear up any misunderstanding about Mr. Cathy’s comment to the press.   Jeremiah Cillpam promised that customers will continue to receive excellent food and service regardless of “belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”

Emphasizing the “independently owned and operated” structure of Chick-Fil-A franchises, Cillpam went on to say that he personally spoke to Chick-Fil-A CEO Dan Cathy, who clarified that his controversial comments against gay marriage do not represent every company employee. (HuffPost).

Yet, the damage has already been done.  With the enormous spending power of LGBT community, the absence of their monies could indeed cripple a business.  Just as one’s involvement with an anti-gay establishment like Chick-Fil-A makes them guilty by association, imagine the effects of word of mouth from gay individuals to their friends and families.  Chick-Fil-A tries to show that they are truly acting in accordance to God’s plan by even not working on Sunday.  Still, one should wonder how they treat fair in other departments of their company:  Diversity (belief, race, sexual orientation or gender).  Though Mr. Cillpam did say that as long as you are a customer you won’t be discriminated against in these areas, you just can’t work for the company under these conditions.

Could members of the LGBT community firmly remove themselves from their addiction to Chick-Fil-A?  Even drug addicts know that drugs are bad for them – yet, the pusher is Dan Cathy and he is daring the scum-of-the-earth into rehab.
